Ardabil’s world heritage

At first sight, the city of Ardabil does not appear like a ‘must seen’ spot. And in fact, it’s not.

Caught up between Tabriz and the caspian sea, the city hasn’t much to offer except the beautiful Sheik Safi mausoleum (a Unesco World Heritage site, picture) and -again- it’s people friendliness and sense of hospitality.

During a frightening bus ride to Rasht, further East, we realized this region must be the greenest and moistest in Iran. Lots of rice crops all around.

Tonight we’re sleeping in Masuleh, little village in the mountains which lost a bit of it’s charm and soul with the tourists hordes (mostly from the capital) that invade the tiny shops and streets in summer.
